- Cooperating with local National Assembly members and Jeollanam-do to reinforce the foundation for the bid
- Accelerating the reorganization of a high value-added industrial ecosystem in step with the launch of the 'Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City'
Yeosu City is building a consensus on attracting the 'Chemical Industry Materials, Parts, and Equipment (MPE) Specialized Complex' to overcome the industrial crisis caused by the global petrochemical downturn and oversupply, and to secure future growth engines.
On the 20th, the city held the 'Forum on Attracting the Jeonnam Chemical Industry MPE Specialized Complex' at the National Assembly Members' Office Building. Jointly hosted by local National Assembly members, Jeollanam-do, and Yeosu City, the forum was organized to highlight the necessity and policy justification for designating the specialized MPE complex to improve the fundamental structure of the Yeosu National Industrial Complex.
The forum served as a platform to reflect on-site industry voices in policymaking and consolidate commitment to the bid. Participants shared the view that, at a critical turning point amid global industrial changes, the designation of a specialized complex is essential for transitioning the Yeosu National Industrial Complex toward high value-added chemical materials industries.
In particular, in connection with the upcoming launch of the 'Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City' later this year, the forum presented a vision to reorganize the Yeosu Industrial Complex into a key supply hub for core materials supporting advanced manufacturing sectors such as semiconductors, energy, and future mobility. This aligns with the integrated local government's strategy to advance regional industries.
The event consisted of an opening ceremony in the first session, followed by thematic presentations and panel discussions in the second session. The Korea Chemical Industry Association and the Institute for Advanced Engineering delivered presentations diagnosing the current industrial crisis and outlining the necessity of establishing the specialized complex. During the comprehensive discussion, participants explored practical and effective strategies to secure the designation.
A city official stated, "This National Assembly forum marks an important opportunity to further enhance the competitiveness of the Yeosu National Industrial Complex, which has long led South Korea's chemical industry, and to position it as a central hub for advanced materials industries." The official added, "We will actively incorporate the strategies proposed at the forum into our policies to successfully secure the designation of the specialized complex."
